Inside Story Online Awards – June 2019 Entry Winners!

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for! We are delighted to announce our first winners of the re-launched Inside Story Awards in their new online format.

The quality of some of the entries was really high, and our judging panel had a tough job deciding which of the entries for the ‘Best IC Work’ or ‘Best IC Team or Person’ categories would take the award. Here are our winners.

Winner ‘Best IC Work’ – PDSA nominated by Jamie Angus. Mental Health Campaign at PDSA

PDSA impressed our judges by turning what can often be a ‘tick box’ exercise on mental health into something that had a significant impact on the workforce, their volunteers and the organisation. They ensured they received support from the top and they encouraged involvement from all colleagues, including their Director General, by clear and concise messaging curated by their own colleagues.

They identified their objectives and outcomes, clearly demonstrating the value of the wellbeing campaign and the impact it had on their organisation but more importantly on the people who work there. They should be very proud of what they achieved.

Winner ‘Best IC Person or Team’ – British Red Cross nominated by Addeel Khan. Creating a Strategic Internal Engagement Team

Our judges were impressed by the scale and ambition of this three-year strategy to improve employee engagement by getting detailed insight into engagement barriers and creating clear plans to address them.

The outcomes included a communications team that has “moved from a reactive, unplanned team…to a more strategic team that sets the agenda on internal communications.” Great work and a worthy winner.

Special Commendation ‘Best IC Work’ – Sodexo

Although this entry wasn’t a winner our judging panel felt that Sodexo should get a special mention to recognise the quality of their entry.

Our judges were impressed by the evidence shown towards measuring the success of the campaign. Communicating with a large workforce is never easy and the Sodexo team showed good results, and the demonstration of conversation activity resulting directly from their campaign was great to see.

The involvement of both internal and external colleagues from within the business described in the entry also showed the clear benefit of working with external counterparts and joining messages together.

Congratulations to our winners. Addeel and Jamie will both receive a free ticket to our Changing the Conversation conference in Birmingham on 8 October, as well as a trophy and some official Inside Story Online Awards images, specially designed for us by ab internal communications, to use on their social media profiles. We’ve also added their entries to the Awards Case Studies section of our website, as a resource for other internal communicators.

For a chance to meet and network with our award winners, speakers, sponsors (including PR Academy and Gatehouse Gallagher) and a host of other internal communicators at the conference, get your ticket now by visiting our conference webpages. You’ve also another chance to win a free conference ticket by submitting an entry for the August 2019 Awards. The Inside Story Online Awards run continuously throughout the year (every two months) and are currently open for entries for the 31 August deadline. If you are a winner in August, and already have a conference ticket, we’ll give you the option of bringing along a colleague for free or reimbursement of the cost of your ticket.

We’ve made it quick and easy for everyone to enter regardless of whether or not you have the entry fee money, or the time, expertise and confidence to construct an entry. There are no big prizes (usually!) or a glitzy presentation ceremony. Our awards are CIPR Inside’s way of just saying a simple ‘thank you’ on behalf of the internal communications industry.

There are more details on the Inside Story Online Awards web pages. It’s simple to participate online and not only will you have the chance to win a small trophy and earn a bit of kudos, we will also showcase your winning entries and people alongside Addeel and Jamie’s entries on our social media channels and website.  The awards are open to everyone who works in internal communication and best of all it’s free to enter.

Good Luck!
