Raising the game

I took advantage of a relatively quiet August to catch up with a number of old friends, colleagues and clients. They work across a range of sectors and have a mix of seniority and experience.

The common theme was that things are really tough out there. Internal Communications resources and people are being squeezed. Whether you’re facing up to the Comprehensive Spending Review in Central Government or trying to tackle the latest restructure or merger in the private sector.

The challenge of doing “more for less” is very real indeed.

In that spirit we have focused our annual conference on how we can “raise our game”. It has never been more important for communications practitioners to demonstrate our effectiveness.

You can look at the up-to-date itinerary here but you will see that we have attracted senior practitioners to discuss how they are tackling the key issues we are all facing. We are showcasing our Excellence Awards winners and finalists – a great opportunity to see some outstanding best practice.

We will also have input from the leadership and HR perspectives. And it’s no accident that we have sought colleagues from different backgrounds to contribute. We believe that it has never been more important to reach beyond our borders. I am therefore genuinely delighted that our friends at the CIPD have agreed to participate in this conference.

Our colleagues need to understand the value great Internal Communications can bring to employee engagement. And as a result employee motivation and productivity.

The conference will provide a great forum for this important debate. I hope to see you there.

As ever I would value your feedback, either on the conference or on the CIPR Inside agenda. You can contact me on scott.mckenzie@hillandknowlton.com
