Measuring success

CIPR Inside launched the Internal Communication Measurement Matrix to make it easier for internal communication professionals to measure their work and the impact that it has.  We hope it helps professionals  to demonstrate the value of their work in internal communication, measure success and inform their practice.

We find the measures used in public relations are not always appropriate for internal communication. So we set about creating our own principles. This started with a summit in June when industry experts on measurement came together to present their approaches to more than 60 delegates.

We then invited practitioners to feedback through a survey.  Among the most important principles highlighted by the respondents were setting measurable objectives and the measurement of both outputs and outcomes.

Professionals have asked for a practical framework to guide them, we hope this will do just that.

As internal communication moves up the business agenda we hope that professionals will use this guide in their planning and campaigns to help demonstrate to their organisations just how effective internal communication can be for employee engagement and improved business performance.
