Discover how to become an influential communication leader

A couple of weeks ago we announced a new #insidestory award, the Future Leader award, recognising the up and coming leaders in internal communication and employee engagement.ISA2016_CIPRInside_co_uk - 750x500px

The winner of the Future Leader award gets to choose from a menu of prizes – one of which is a place on the brand new course from PR Academy. The Communication Leadership and Management short course is a perfect fit with the new award. At the time when we launched the award, the course had not yet been officially launched, but today it has been and so we’re really happy to share some details with you.

Over to Kevin Ruck from PR Academy to explain more about the course:

You’re a great internal communication practitioner, but what other skills do you need in order to become an influential communication leader?

Leadership and management skills and knowledge come high up the list for many communication practitioners, according to PR Academy research. And internal communication is increasingly being seen as a vital strategic communication function. That’s why we decided to develop a course on leadership and management specifically for communicators.

We ran a pilot Leadership Programme in 2014, and from this we have developed a new Communication Leadership and Management short course. Launched this week, this is one of three PR Academy-run courses newly accredited by the University of Chester.

University of Chester

The University of Chester is acknowledged internationally as a leader in the provision of work-based training, so seemed to us a natural partner for practically focused courses. Essentially, the work-based approach means that students will be encouraged to draw on their own practice and to use what they learn on the course at work in order to make a stronger impact. Clearly, this has a very tangible benefit for employers and clients. I see it as a valuable stepping stone for career development into a more senior communication management role.

So what should students of the course expect to learn? Well, they’ll be given an introduction to the core principles of business strategy, financial management and transformational leadership. The course also includes coaching senior managers, and how to become a trusted advisor and confident communication leader. Students will be lucky enough to be taught by Professor Anne Gregory, co-author of Strategic Public Relations Leadership, and Chris Tucker, former Director of Public Relations for the Barclays Group.

Those who complete the course successfully will receive credits towards the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Corporate Communication from the University of Chester, via its work-based learning framework.
