#asktheguru – aligning internal and external comms

On Tuesday 13 May 2014, 30 plus communicators gathered at the RIBA building, London for our #asktheguru session on aligning internal and external communication.

#asktheguru sessions are lively and informal discussions on a given topic. We normally have two or three gurus to start the discussion and answer questions based upon their professional experience. The real value from these events is that they give everyone a chance to ask questions, and because they are small informal events most people get involved and join the debate.

This event’s gurus were:

Alistair Smith, who is Alistair is Managing Director in charge of Corporate Communications at Barclays Group.  He works for the bank’s overall head of Corporate Communications, he is responsible for Barclays’ corporate narrative and planning, seeking to ensure that communications activity is co-ordinated, concerted and impactful.

Louise Barfield  who  has over 20 years’ experience of bringing together the sharpest minds and award-winning creatives to solve complex brand and communications challenges – from innovation and global brand strategy to collaborative social media programmes.

Kathryn Bell a Corporate Comms specialist with 15 years experience in internal and external comms. Having starting her career as a trade and tech journalist and editor, Kathryn ‘crossed to the dark side’, joining Republic PR Agency in London.

It was a great discussion and some key points were shared on twitter and we’ve created a storify so we can share them with you here.
